The Upper Hand
Updated: Oct 22, 2020
Lately, I have been overcome with stress when it comes to my senior thesis. I know I like to paint portraits, but there has to be more to it than that. I decided I would take a break for a week. Instead, I painted hands. I framed them and treated them as if they were a portrait. I'm taking my time with each hand, trying to make them realistic, but then shaking things up with the coloration of the second hand. This will allow the viewer to think about these hands more conceptually than they may have had it been painted "normally."
There is still a bit I have to do to finish the painting, but it was refreshing to step back for a little while. In this time, with help, I have finally come up with an idea for my thesis. I'm still stressed, but I have a direction. I will get into my idea more in coming posts. For now, enjoy these hands.
